| | | Bridgett Ciupka, Midwife | | |
Bridgett Ciupka is a Midwife and director of The Birth Place. She has been a practicing Midwife since 1997 and founded The Birth Place in 1998. During her first pregnancy in 1988, she had desired and thoroughly prepared for a natural birth experience. After that pregnancy ended in an automatic cesarean for a breech baby she felt the need to advocate for parents to have more responsibility and more control over choices in childbirth. Her second baby was born gently into the hands of midwives in a birthing center. Her third was a beautiful home water birth in which the baby made it before the midwife! And lastly, her fourth was a beautiful home water birth in which the midwife (Linda Honey) made it by about 30 minutes!
Bridgett received her academic and clinical midwifery training at a nationally renowned birth center in Michigan, where she had the opportunity to attend about 200 births during her two year apprenticeship, before starting her own midwifery practice in 1997. She is a member of the Midwives Alliance of North America and formerly served as the Vice-President of the Michigan Midwives Association.

| | | Linda Honey, Midwife | | | |
Linda Honey is a midwife on staff at The Birth Place since December 2006. She has been practicing home birth midwifery since October 1976. In addition she has had 30 students 10 of which are now practicing midwifery in the upper & lower peninsula. Her children were born at home: Sontia 4/3/76, Marinda 1/6/79 and Sage 3/4/81. All three of her grand daughters were born at home also; Izraea 1/8/00 a waterbirth, Ayla 9/17 01 and Krysta 8/16/03 a waterbirth. Her philosophy is that pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding are all healthy natural functions of a healthy woman ans should be treated as such. As a midwife she supports women in the process of birth, rather than impose artificial interventions or make labor conform to a specific pattern; the range for variation is wide. | |
